FUNCTIONS OF SPECIAL BOARD HUNDREDS OF SUGGESTIONS RECEIVED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 15. "Many hundreds of suggestions relating to the three fighting services and also to various phases of our war effort have been received from private citizens," said the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, to-day, referring to the functions and work of the Inventions Board, which was set up after the outbreak of the war to dear with suggestions likely to be of value for defensive and offensive operations. The board, Mr Jones said, comprised senior technical officers of the three services with reDresentatives of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Munitions Controller. Only a small proportion of the suggestions were found suitable, he continued, but practically every suggestion received had been offered freely as a contribution to the war effort and the Government appreciated the patriotic spirit which prompted these offers. The Minister added that consideration of these inventions was expedited if full details, including drawings or sketches, were forwarded to the secretary of the Inventions Board, and he also.stated that the communication of any invention to the board would not prejudice the granting of a valid patent.
