HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Speaking in the 1938 election campaign, Dr Newlands said: " The next step will be towards the provision of increased accommodation in the hospital itself by 90 or 100 beds." Why has this promise not been kept? If it had. many people to-day in urgent need of hospital attention could obtain it.—l am etc.. Interested. North-East Valley. May 15. [The Otago Hospital Board and the Health Department have approved of a scheme for a considerable extension of the Dunedin Hospital. Plans are almost complete and tenders will shortly be called for one building which will accommodate 60 patients. For many years past there has been a waiting list at the Hospital, but in a number' of instances, the cases do not require urgent attention.—Ed.. O.D.i.J
