STRIKES IN AMERICA

PACIFIC COAST SHIPYARDS WORK ON WARSHIPS HALTED NEW YORK. May 13. The construction of 27 destroyers and 43 naval auxiliaries has been halted by a joint American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organisations strike at 11 Pacific Coast shipyards. The strike spread to Boston and slopped work on the new dry dock, in spite of protests by the Government and union leaders. The strikers are 1700 machinists, but 20,000 other workmen are thereby rendered idle.
