GOOD RELATIONS
BRITAIN" AND ICELAND ANNIVERSARY OF OCCUPATION RUGBY, May 12. The five newspapers in Iceland commented on Saturday on the first anniversary of British occupation, and showed satisfaction with the good relations between the two nations, and appreciation of the British willingness to listen to the Icelandic point of view. The Timinn says; “The behaviour of the soldiers has been noble and gentlemanly. They have tried to recognise and honour our national pride and patriotism.” The Visir says: “ Daily relations during the past year on the whole
have been good. The British have shown greatness by yielding to our wishes on many points. Nothing in the behaviour of the British has evoked more kindly feelings in the hearts of Icelanders than the consideration shown to us on our national day. While the British forces stay here let us do our best to further the good relations.”
