THE MAYORESS’S PART
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—ln all the correspondence in your paper regarding the Mayoral election, I have not noticed any reference made to the work of Mrs A. H. Allen, who has held the position of Mayoress with an easy grace and a quiet dignity in a becoming manner. Mrs Allen is no blatant aspirant seeking publicity, but through force of circumstances attained the position which she has held during her husband’s term of office as Mayor of the city, and has not spared herself in performing her share of the social part of the Mayor’s multifarious duties. She has proved herself to be admirably fitted for the position she has held, being approachable by rich and poor alike, and I hope the women of our city will show their esteem and their appreciation of her past work by doing their utmost to retain her services as Mayoress. This can be done in only one way—by reelecting Mr Allen as Mayor.—l am, etc., Plain Mary. Dunedin, May 13
