PARADES DUNTROON Home Guard PARADE Friday, May 16, 8 p.m. ELECTION NOTICES a''© THE RATEPAYERS OF PAPAA KAIO RIDING. Having been Nominated again to Represent this Riding on the County Council, I shall confine myself generally to Council matters. During my term the Riding accounts were abolished, thereby facilitating the raising of loans for road sealing. These loan repayments were spread over the whole County, whereas previously each Riding had to finance itself. l am sure this - Riding has fared well in the way of sealed roads' compared with other parts of the County. The old wooden culverts are now being replaced by more serviceable and durable concrete structures. I shall not make any extravagant promises which would be impossible of fulfilment. One matter which causes every member much concern is that one-third of the rates goes to the Hospital Board, with the possibility of higher payments when the new buildings are completed. The foreshadowing of a slight lowering of the rates may not be entirely out of place, as this has been considered recently by the Council. The Harbour Board’s policy has been given prominence in the press lately. The W.E.P.B. is seriously concerned with shortage of material and War Regulations, which cause considerable expense in putting into effect. I have not approached a single ratepayer for his or her support on May 17, as I think this is for them to decide for themselves.—Yours sincerely, E. S. BREWSTER, Eveline. r TO THE ELECTORS OF WAITAKI A COUNTY. Ladies and Gentlemen, — ! I am again offering myself as a 1 Candidate for a seat on the Oamaru Harbour Board as a representative of the Waitaki County. During the past three years 1 have endeavoured to make myself conversant with Harbour affairs, and how best the port can assist the producers, farmers and the district in general. The advent of war has necessarily interfered with normal workings, but the interests of the producers and the farming community have always been held of the utmost importance; and. within our means, I favour maintaining the port to ensure the export of our produce to avoid heavy transport costs to other ports. The present financial policy of applying the whole of the rates to the extinction of the Board’s indebtedness has my whole-hearted support, and I look forward to the day when relief in rates will be possible. A. H. CHAPMAN, jun., Kurow. TO THE RATEPAYERS. AWAMOKO *- RIDING. Ladies and Gentlemen, — If you do me the honour of returning me as your Representative, it will be my definite policy to maintain a programme of steady progress consistent with the needs of the Riding, with a strict regard for all items of expendidure and the desire to ensure that in all undertakings the ratepayers’ money is used as economically as possible in the interests of efficient works whatever they may be. If vou do me the honour of returning me, therefore, I will do all in my power to serve your interests and merit your confidence. Through efficient working we should be able to get a reduction in rates. Yours faithfully, ROBERT J. ELLIOTT. TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE A WAITAKI COUNTY. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I am again offering myself as a Candidate for re-election as your representative on the Waitaki Hospital Board, the Waitaki Electric Power Board, and the Oamaru Harbour Board. I hope I have merited your confidence after so many years’ service, and if elected will do my best in the interests of all the ratepayers and all concerned. Yours sincerely, ARCHIBALD McINNES. ELECTIONS. For the convenience of those interested. results of Polling will be displayed at WEAR STREET HALL on SATURDAY EVENING. R. K. GARDINER. Returning Officer.
