HOME GUARD

INSINUATION OF POLITICS CONDEMNED BY MINISTER (PA.) WELLINGTON, May 13. " I have been informed, whether correctly or not I am unable to say, that an attempt is being made to use the Home Guard and the Emergency Precautions Scheme for political purposes, said the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple, to-day. " This is contrary to the whole purpose of these organisations. I addressed hundreds of meetings to form them, and made the point clear that the Commonwealth was engaged in a titanic struggle for liberty. We are all in that, and politics of any sort are all out. Any attempt to create internal division is a crime of the greatest magnitude. "I take this opportunity of advising the rank and file of both organisations." the Minister added, "to resent keenly the introduction of politics. Anyone who attempts it Is an enemy, not a friend."
