DUNEDIN. A request that the Government should be asked to amend the Banking Act by eliminating saints' day holiday*: has been made by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to the Associated Chambers. The chamber points out that the nuisance of the St. George's Day holiday coming only two days before Anzac Day again caused excessive congestion in a number of the city banks. In view of the shortage of staffs at present, it was contended that bank holidays on saints' days appeared to be a luxury the country could not afford.
