ELECTION NOTICES iO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE AWAMOKO RIDING. Ladies and Gentlemen,— Once again I have the honour to "icit the support of the jewels „»■ election to the Waitaki County Council and the Waitaki Hospital As is well known, I was born in North Otago, and have, lived in the district all my life. In it are situated all mv interests. I can honestly state that as opportunity has afforded me l have served on many public bodies to the best of my ability. As a ratepayer myself and as one indirectly interested in several other rates, it'is plainly contrary to my interests to make any move that will increase rating charges. What increases there have been during the last few years -were regretted by me, and were' due to matters quite outside my control. They were due to the increased cost of wages, petrol, and other overhead charges. . . I have always been of opinion that it would be desirable 4o abolish the local rating for Hospitals and to substitute some equitable national system. In the absence of such a scheme, ratepayers must realise that Hospital charges are bound to rise, since our people are becoming more Hospital minded. No responsible ratepayer, however, would wish to deny any patient proper treatment and care. I have pleasure in informing all my friends that after my recent operation I" am now in better health than 1 have enjoved for years. My medical advisers assure me that I am now able to undertake the full responsibilities of the office for the securing of which I now invite your support. I will endeavour to serve your interests, which are also my own, to the best of my ability. Yours faithfully, W. SIMPSON. ■ Springside, Tokarahi. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAITAKI COUNTY. Ladies and Gentlemen In acceding to many requests to offer myself as a candidate for a seat on the Waitaki Electric Power Board and the Waitaki Hospital Board, I did so with a feeling that, as a farmer and resident of North Otago for many years, I have an intimate knowledge of the requirements of the district. Regarding the Power Board, I realise the great convenience and assistance of electricity and it would be my aim to make the current available to every household at the lowest possible cost. As a candidate for the. Hospital Board, I think that the Board should exercise the closest watch over its growing expenditure and see whether some relief might be given to the ratepayers, who are obliged to contribute such a large portion of the revenue. In these times of war, and its aftermath, the utmost consideration should be shown to the .farmers and producers. Yours faithfully, GEORGE PRINGLE. Kauru Hill. HOSPITAL BOARD. ELECTION OF THREE MEMBERS. As a Candidate soliciting a continuance of your support on MAY 17, I shall, if re-elected, advocate— A Reduction of Administrative Costs. Justice to the Nurses. Beard Control. The Establishment of a District Nursing Scheme, which can be maintained at no added cost to the ratepayers. Yours respectfully, ■ NEIL H. COLQUHOUN. >OROUGH OF OAMARU.
