ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
DEDICATION OF COLOURS The colours of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, which were presented to the Dunedin headquarters by an anonymous donor, were dedicated last night, when a short but impressive service was conducted by Bishop Fitchett. The night Commander of the Venerable Order of St. John in New Zealand, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., said that this was the first time that he had attended a dedication service of the St. John colours. He referred to the early history, of St. John Ambulance work in Dunedin, pointing out that, outside the British Isles, this city had the honour of having the first ambulance division formed, and also the oldest nursing division. Expressing gratification at the manner in which the Order of St. John and the Red Cross were working together for the war effort, Sir Heaton said that, out of a membership of 8000, 400 were serving overseas. He then presented three long-service medals (12 years) to Miss I. A. Duray, Mr D. McFie and Mr G. R. Syder.
