Mrs A. Lavender is paying a visit to tier sister. Mrs S. Rice, of Wyndham. Mr and Mrs Holden Mirams left yesterday to spend a holiday in Timaru. Mr and Mrs O. Gordon Cox left yesterday for Hakataramea. where they will spend the vacation. Miss May Paterson, of VVaihi, is the guest of Mrs J. M. Paterson, of Tennyson street. Quartermaster-sergeant and Mrs W Stevenson, of Auckland, are the guests of Mrs W. Stevenson, of Dunottar. Mrs Arthur Heil. of Rangiora, is staying with Mrs L. P. Sullivan, of Rosebery street. Belleknowes. Mrs Guy Tapley and Mrs E. Evatt are the guests of Mrs A. C. Paterson at Wanaka Miss D Humphreys, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs Charles Rattray, of Belmont lane Mr Skipworth will speak on “The Garden in General ” at the Otago Women’s Club this afternoon. Miss Fiona Mann, of Christchurch, is staying with her aunt, Mrs T. F. Thomson, of Cumberland street, for the vacation. A meeting of members of the Plunket Society will be held to-morrow night at the Plunket rooms. Gospel Hall, Naylor street, Mornington. with the object of forming a sub-branch of the society in the Mornington district.
Mrs L. Falck has returned to Christchurch after a three years’ absence in England. Her youngest son, Brian Glover, who accompanied her abroad, joined the R.A.F.V.R. before the outbreak of war. and shortly afterwards, obtained a commission. He was sent to Canada in charge of a company of airmen at the beginning of the year, and is now an instructor there. Mrs Falck’s eldest son, Wing Commander Lawrence Glover (who was educated at McGlashan College) has been stationed at Malta for several months. In a recent letter he mentioned that he had received a Christmas parcel from Dunedin. Mrs Falck’s only daughter (nee Coreen Glover), who was educated at Archerfleld. left for India with her husband on the same day that her mother left for New Zealand A very successful recital was presented by the pupils of Miss Muriel Eagar in the Astor Cafe on Saturday afternoon before a large gathering of parents and friends. An interesting programme was arranged which included patriotic numbers by the choir, piano solos, songs and recitations, and 3 charming cantata, “The Review of the Colours.’’ Miss Eagar wore a pale green flowered georgette dress with a gold belt, and the dainty frocking of the pupils was also attractive. At the conclusion of the programme afternoon tea was served. The performers were: Beverley Hastie, Mona Hooper, Valmai Gilmour. Maureen Keenan, Shirley Liston, Betty Dillon, Lorraine Stewart, Blanche and Noeline Barron, Pamela Elliott, Joyce Taylor, Nola McEwan, Dawn and Beverley Pool, Olive Milburn. Doreen Todd. Gloria Foots, Lorna and Bernice Ryan, Eileen Graham, Brenda Nevin, Valerie and June Reid, Misses June McClatchy and Patricia Ryan and Mrs W. Hall. Masters lan Gilmour, Kelvin Hastie, Stuart Blackie. Russell Austin. Jim Masson and Graham McKenzie. The makers claim that no matter what you have wrong with you. R.U.R. will do you good.
