ORDEAL IN GREECE
NEW ZEALANDERS MAGNIFICENT MESSAGE FROM GENERAL WILSON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 10. , The following telegram has been received by Sir Andrew Russell from Sir H. Maitland Wilson, in the Middle East:— "In the recent campaign in Greece, in a severe ordeal against heavy odds, especially in the air. the New Zealand Division acquitted itself magnificently, carrying out difficult and complicated withdrawals and inflicting severe losses on the enemy infantry and tanks Its spirit and fighting qualities are of the highest order and right up to the traditions of the New Zealand Division in which I had the honour to serve on your staff." Sir Andrew Russell has suitably replied. General Wilson was a General Staff Officer (grade I.) of the New Zealand Division in 1917-18. and Sir Andrew Russell was the General Officer Commanding. It was announced from London yesterday that Sir Maitland Wilson had been appointed General Officer Commanding the forces in Palestine and Transjordan.
