Sixteen cement m anuf i ac i t " ril l g nT^ r ; panies were awarded a total of tiouu against the Bishop of Birmingham, Bishop Barnes, in a slander action arising from a speech in which it was alleged that plaintiffs were curtailing production in order to keep up the price of cement. The bishop gave no evidence, but counsel on his behalf expressed his unqualified regret for any defamation.
