ELECTION NOTICES TO THE RATEPAYERS, KAKANUI J- RIDING, - WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL. Ladies and Gentlemen,- 1 - . I respectfully solicit your support for no other reason than that your interests are my interests.: '-' /' ' Despite the fact that the rates have gone up and up during recent years, and now actually constitute a second rent, some of the side roads are in an atrocious condition. The Hospital Levy has also gone up enormously, and I believe the burden on the ratepayers should be placed on a more equitable basis by making the upkeep of hospitals a national and not a local cost. If returned, it will always be my endeavour to maintain a policy of progress consistent with requirements. Your faithfully, W. M. COOPER. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAITAKI COUNTY. Ladies and Gentlemen, — I am again offering myself as a Candidate for a seat on the Oamaru Harbour Board as a representative of the Waitaki County. During the past three years I have endeavoured to make myself conversant with Harbour affairs, and how best the port can assist the producers, farmers and the district in general. The advent of war has necessarily interfered with normal workings, but the interests of the producers, and the farming community have always been held of the utmost importance; and, within' our means, I favour maintaining the port to ensure the export of our produce to avoid heavy transport costs to other ports. The present financial policy of applying the whole of the rates to the extinction of the Board's indebtedness has my whole-hearted support, and I look forward to the day when relief in rates will be possible.
