PATRIOTIC COUNCIL

OTAGO EXECUTIVE FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council was held yesterday afternoon and was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) and Messrs J. Sutherland Ross, Edgar Hazlett, F. W. Mitchell, H. McDowell Smith. J. W. Smeatcn. W. R. Clarke, -J. J. Marlow, A. C. Cameron, W. G. Kindley, J. M. White and Dr W. Newlands. Finance Committee Mr Hazlett, chairman of the Finance Committee, recommended the payment of £206 12s 6d. The recommendation was approved. Mr Hazlett reported that Mr Ambrose Hudson had made a gift of £75 for the cost of a third billiard table at the aerodrome. Touching on the expenditure of the National Fund Board Mr Hazlett said he thought that the time had arrived when they should get fuller information regarding expenditure by the beard. He said that as the Mayor was a member of the Advisory Council he might at the next meeting of the council in Wellington ask the National Fund Board to supply fuller particulars of the amounts enumerated in the proposed budget to December, 1941. The Mayor said he certainly thought that the council should have representation on the National Fund Board. (Hear, hear.) It was decided to adopt the suggestion made by Mr Hazlett and to ask the Mayor to act. The appointment of Mr J. G. Dykes as a member of the Finance Committee in place of the late Sir Percy Sargood had been confirmed, said Mr HazPayments to Returned Soldiers Mr Hazlett and the Mayor referred to the advisability of having a pamphlet issued giving in tabloid form the regulations concerning payments available to returned soldiers, and it was decided to instruct the secretary to arrange for the obtaining of the information desired with a view to having it circulated and printed later, if thought necessary. Funds of the Council The treasurer (Mr J. A. Johnston) stated that the cash received to date was £104,290 11s lid and the total expenditure for all purposes to the same date was £12,799 Is 6d. The balance in the fund was £91,491 10s Id. The treasurer said that the amount standing to the credit of the general fund account was £2021 3s 2d and that the amount standing to the credit of the Services and Dependents’ Account was £80.248 13s 7d.
