“RISE UP, O MEN OF GOD”

EDITOR Sir. —Your correspondent " Layman " complains of the Door attendances at church services, and says that rows of news are unoccupied. As one who has been connected with church work for the past 60 years. I can throw some light on the cause of the poor attendances. First of all. I am sure the fault lies with the ministers themselves. The man outside the church goes to church because he is hungering for something which can only be obtained if the preacher will deliver a good sound sermon dealing with the Bible and its teachings. What ( happens is that other parts of the service leave only a few minutes for the sermon, and in many cases it affords no food for the poor person whose spul is craving for some knowledge of the teachings of our Saviour Who, when He was on earth, went about preaching, not singing.—I am, etc.. Layman No. 2. TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Your correspondent " Only a Layman" in his letter writes, "No wonder one sometimes hears the remark, ' What has gone wrong with the world?'" That question can be answered in four words. It has lost God.—l am. etc., J. D. Brown. Mosgiel, Feb. 6.
