APPEALS FROM MILITARY SERVICE \ LONG LIST OF GASES A'.sitting of .the Dimedin Manpower Committee, comprising Messrs D. C. Cameron, (chairman). J. C. H. Somerville and-W. ,R. Clarke., was held yesterday. . The Director of National Service appealed on behalf of a boilermaker, employed by the' Railways Department, on the grounds of Public interest. The appeal was dismissed. An appeal on behalf of a fitter, also employed by the Railways Department, was ad r journed sine die. Ah appeal by the Trustees Executors Company, Ltd., on behalf of a manager of 'a , sheep farm was adjourned to March 31. Methven and Company appealed on behalf of a machine operative on the grounds of public interest, the appeal being adjourned for three months. ,y . Ah: appeal by a woman on behalf of her son, on the grounds of undue hardship, three other sons having already joined the military forces, was adjourned sine die. Ross and Glendining appealed on behalf of a machine operative on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship, the appeal being adjourned for four months The Director of National Service appealed on behalf of a radio technician ■ on the grounds of public interest. The appeal was adjourned sine die. An appeal on behalf of a farm worker was dismissed, subject to the man not being called up before January 31. An appeal by a wholesale fur dealer on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship was adjourned to March 31. An appeal by a married man who was wrongly included in the ballot was upheld. A wool-puller employed by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, was released, from service until April 31, and an appear on behalf of a butcher, emnloyed by the same company, was adjourned to May 1. An appeal on behalf of a shepherd was adjourned to March 31. and one on behalf, of a farmer was adjourned to May 1. A traffic inspector's appeal was dismissed, and one on behalf of a
railway porter was adjourned to January 31. A farm manager's/ appeal was adjourned to May 1* a labourer's appeal was dismissed, and appeals on behajf of two farm workers were adjourned sine die. An appeal on behalf of a farm manager was adjourned sine die, and one on behalf of another farm manager was dismissed subject to his not being called up before February 15.-. ..-■'... ■■,;■•• • ■ Several appeals by employers for the release of employees who had enlisted in the Expeditionary Force were dealt with. The cases of, a train examiner and a boilermaker were adjourned to March 31. two farm hands were released f <?r military service immediately, a butcher was released for service from January 31, a miller from March 31, and a mechanic from March 31. A clerk and a carter were released for immediate service, and a farm hand was released for service from March .31. Appeals by employers for the temporary exemption of employees who were volunteer Territorials were considered. A. farm; hand was released for service from ; the end of February, two runholders from March 31, a rabbiter was released fcr service immediately, a farm hand from March 21. a clerk from February 7, and the case of a mechanic was adjourned for three months. .',.'•.
