WOMEN'S BAND

DUNEDIN ORGANISATION FIRST PUBLIC CONCERT NEXT MONTH A newly-formed musical combination the Dunedin Women's Band, will give its first public concert at the end of next month. The organisation of the band was begun about eight months ago by Mr Arthur Hodgkins, after he had successfully launched a similar scheme in Auckland He has had considerable experience of band work in Canada and Australia. Since its inception the Dunedin band has made remarkable progress musically. Many of the members, who now number over 30, had no knowledge of music, but now, it is stated, the band is strong both in musical proficiency and numbers. For some time private concerts have been given by the band to raise funds for uniforms. In addition, collecting cards have been sent out, and almost enough money has now been collected to purchase the necessary material
