THEFT AT GORE
SAFE BROKEN OPEN £ls IN CASH REMOVED The sum of £ls in cash was stolen on Friday night or early on Saturday morning from a safe in the office of a garage owned and occupied by Mr W. McKenzie, Gore. The theft was discovered at 8 o’clock on Saturday morning when Mr McKenzie arrived at work, Mr McKenzie locked up the premises at 10.30 o’clock on Friday night, and when he arrived at work on Saturday morning he discovered that the office door was unlocked. The safe was lying on the middle ol the floor, and the back walj was gaping open The thief or thieves had evidently found some means of opening the office door, as there were no marks around the lock to show that ar instrument had been used. The window was also open It is thought that a chisel was used on the safe, the rivets having been cut and the back wall turned back. A number of cheques amounting io about £SO or £6O was not touched, but all the cash was removed. The cash drawer was also forced open and about 6s or 7s taken A few oennies were not taken.
