LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT CONTINUED Play was continued yesterday in the North Otago Lawn Tennis Association's Christmas tournament at the Awamoa courts. The day was fine, but a strong wind in the afternoon made conditions difficult for the players. A feature of the play was a marathon match between McDougall and Pearce and Robson and Steven in the Men's Championship Doubles. The first-named pair won the third set after the score had gone to 13—11. The tournament will be continued to-day, and the finals will be played this afternoon. CRICKET COLTS' MATCH NORTH OTAGO v. OTAGO A DRAWN GAME Resuming play for the second day in the colts match at the Waitaki Boys' High School yesterday, North Otago continued its first innings, the side being all out for 141 runs, six runs ahead of Otago's first innings total. Both Cameron and Wilson, the not-out men, added only two runs to their first day's scores, and were dismissed for 54 and 13 respectively The, tail-enders did not get going, only 23 runs being added to the total for the loss of five wickets. Valentine was the most successful of the Otago bowlers, taking six wickets for 35 runs. Otago was given a good start in its second innings by the opening batsmen, Buckley and Somerville, 104 runs being on the board before they were separated. Somerville was bowled by Robertson at 60, and Buckley was dismissed soon after with 38 runs to his credit. Eraser and Geary then carried the score along to 166, when Fraser lost his wicket at 39. MacIntyre Showed that he had lost none of his skill with the bat, for he joined Geary and hit boundaries" merrily Geary was caught at 27, and Maclntyre met a similar fate at 60, his total including three sixes and six other boundaries. Jenkins was going well for 25 not out when the innings was declared closed at 271 for the loss of seven wickets. North Otago faced a deficit ot 265 runs when it went in to bat for the second time. Beattie went without scoring, but McKone batted well, and when joined by Watson the score mounted steadily, the board reading four for 138. at which stage Watson succumbed to a catch for 49 McKone made a valuable contribution of 71 before he was bowled, and at the call of time North Otago had lost eight wickets for 175. Geary was the most successful bowler for Otago. his figures reading four wickets for 43 runs. Mr Rodgers, who had been in failing health for some time, was one of the earliest settlers in the Enfield district. He was born in County Antrim (Ireland), and had been about 60 years in New Zealand. On his arrival in. the country he came to Oamaru and spent his earlier years in cropping and contracting, mostly at Elderslie. Later he took up a farm on the Teaneraki Settlement, where he continued farming operations up to about 10 years ago, when failing health. compelled his retirement. He married Miss Lucinda Eleanor Earl, of Oamaru. by whom he was predeceased 10 vears ago. He is survived by one son (Mr John Alexander Rodgers, Wellington) and two brothers (Messrs George Rodgers, Enfield, and Daniel Rodgers, Hawke's Bay). Mr Rodgers was highly esteemed by the residents of the district in which he had lived so -long. FIRST AID SUCCESSFUL KAKANUI CANDIDATES The following candidates were succesful in a first aid examination held at Kakanui recently:—lna McDonald, Vera Marwick, Brian Rusbatch, Margaret Innes, Frances Allan, Rosetta McGregor.
