OPENING DAY’S PLAY (Per United Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 26. New Zealand’s fiftieth chess congress and the first held in Timaru for 30 years wai opened to-night. There were nine entries in. the ■ championship contest—five from Wellington, one from Wanganui, two from Auckland, and one from Otago.
