METHODISM’S ORDEAL
-Appalling devastation has been wrought by. Nazi:, bombing raids on London 1 Methodism, states the Methodist Times. In one terrible fortnight in Sepember the London Mission had over one-third of its -halls, churches, and schools seriously damaged or completely , destroyed. of lives were lost, and over *£250,000 of property went. “ Some of the buildings, demolished are great historic missions, associated with famous London missioners whose names are household words in British Methodism,” adds the message, “For half a century they have been great religious and Philanthropic centres ih East and South London. According to the secretary of the conference, when the’ last mail left 73 Methodist churches and buildings in London; and 83 in the country had been gravely damaged or utterly wrecked. Doubtless the number has been materially added to since then.”
