Gallacher, M.P.. the only Communist at Westminster, to-day asked the Under-secretary for Foreign Affairs " why the Polish forces were being rapidly armed by Britain in view of the fact that the Polish Government claims to be in a state of war with the Soviet Government, and that in its recent proposals to the Soviet, Britain promised not to render assistance to any Power or Powers engaged in war against the Soviet Union." Butler replied: "The member's question is best answered by saying that the Polish forces are being armed against the enemies that the British and Polish Governments have in common, and not against Powers with which Britain is at peace."
