SWIMMING CENTRE
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The executive of the Otago Amateur Swimming Centre met last evening. The nresidentf Mr W. A. Jenkins, occupied the chair and there were also present Messrs D. C. Bannatyne, D. F. Watson,_J._McTag gart, A. DeUchrass, A. Baker, G. H. Peat, I. Sonntag. and Mrs McTaggart. Port Chalmers Club The Port Chalmers Swimming Club sought information regarding affiliating with the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Several .members of the centre were appointed to attend the club’s carnival on Saturday afternoon, and the question of affiliation was left in the hands of the secretary. Water Polo The secretary reported that replies had been received from the various secondary schools regarding the proposal to have water polo teams from each of them. The only school which had indicated some likelihood of support was the Technical C °lt e was agreed to select 20 water polo players to commence practice tor tne game with Southland next year, and the matter was left In the hands of the Water Polo Committee. St. Clair Baths The town clerk replied to the centre’s letter regarding the St. Clair Baths, stating that the work of repairing the outlet valve and removing sand and gravel from the pool and repairing leaks was being carried out. , . .. The president said he thought the City Council would save money if It took steps to prevent sand and gravel from getting into the baths. He .referred to the .condition of the baths generally and deplored the possibility of the, St. Clair baths being closed Mr Watson said he thought there was no doubt that they would be closed and expressed the opinion that the centre should take some action. It was contended that a small wall could be Inexpensively erected to prevent the trouble that was recurring from year to year. . A deputation consisting of the president and Mr B. F. Simondsen was appointed to wait on the City Council to discuss the matter. , , ' , . The Clinton Amateur Swimming Club wrote applying for affiliation and it was agreed to forward the application to the New Zealand Council together with a favourable recommendation.
