GREEKS ADMIT WITHDRAWAL

GROWING AIR ACTIVITY NAPLES AGAIN BOMBED (By Wireless) LONDON, Nov. 7. (Received Nov. 8, at 1 a.m.) The latest communique from Athens reports that the Greek troops have made a slight withdrawal in the Epirus sector at the Adriatic end of the front. The previous position was that the Greeks had retaken a bridgehead which the Italians had made on the south side of the Kalamas River. The Italians were driven back over the river, which is eight miles inside Greece and runs parallel with the frontier. The withdrawal now reported is probably connected with a claim made by the Italian High Command to have crossed a river in the Epirus sector. Tlie .‘.Athens... communique also, reports that there was an - exchange' of artillery fire on the whole of the front yesterday. I "" .adds that there is considerable air activity on both sides and-that the small Greek Air Force bombed Italian troops. Agency reports say that Italian aerodromes and bases in Albania were raided and that the Royal Air Force is continuing to give the Greek Air Force -valuable support. There was a third raid, on Naples on Monday night, and although the results were not observed clearly nine bombs were seen to explode near the railway junction. Italian planes aimlessly bombed a number of Greek towns yesterday, including Corinth, Larissa, Patras and Janina, as well as • the 1 Island of Corfu. It is claimed by the Greeks that there were no. casualties and that no military damage was caused. Salonika is the town that has suffered most from Italian raids and General Metaxas has sent a message of sympathy to the people, in which he says that a lack of success m the field has caused the enemy to indulge in tactics of terrorism against the civil population.
