NAVY LEAGUE NOTES
The Navy League Committee wishes to thank the following who have sent donations in money and kind and have knitted “ comforts ” during the past week (October 10 to 17): W.D.F.U. Berwick (Mrs Drake); Cambrian Group (Mrs G. Morgan): Townswomen’s Guild (Mrs Fotheringham); Chisholm Park Golf Club; Ladies’ mid-week section (for Christmas comforts): Columba Old Girls’ Association (Mrs Wardell); Mesdames Helmsley. Holloway Bagley, Truern. Shrimpton. Ewing. Dykes, Ritchie. Davies; Misses Schultz. Blythe. Kelly. Drake. Taylor. Fynemore, Barnett' (Mosgiel). Campbell, J. Morrell. Hindle. Rosevear. Minogue. and an anonymous giver. A cable has been received from Sir Sydney Fremantle, chairman of the Navy League. London, stating that, in addition to knitted garments, a quantity of blankets, thick vests, pants, and flannel shirts would be most welcome for the men of the minesweepers etc.. working in the North Sea. The Otago branch will undertake to forward any such article which, in common with the knitted garments, can be left, as heretofore, at the Navy League office, Bond street or at Messrs Ross and Glendining, Ltd., High street or at “ Broomhill,” Roslyn. , Those who have recently made and sent in fruit cakes will be glad to know that some have already been sent to, our seamen, and also magazines and books to a ship recently in port. It is pointed out that magazines, such as the Strand Windsor, etc., with short stories and articles, are especially suitable and acceptable. There will be no distribution of wool on Friday October 25 (Labour Day week-end).
