HEADQUARTERS CHANGE APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED As a result of the appointment of Lieutenant-colonel L. Potter, N.Z.S.C., to the command of the Central Field Force, with the temporary rank of colonel, Major D. E. Bremner, M.G., N.Z.S.C., has been appointed general staff officer (first grade) to succeed him at Northern Military District headquarters. Major Bremner has been commandant of the district army school, Narrow. Neck, for some time,-’.. 'Another appointment is that pf Major W. Murphy, M.C., N.Z.S.C., who has been staff officer- in charge of training at Papakura camp, to Army Headquarters in Wellington. He -is being succeeded at Papakura by Captain J. L. Muir. M.C.. Hamilton, has been appointed to command a general , hospital ovirseas.-with the Second .New Zealand Expeditionary: Force, with the rank of-4eniporasy colonel, , && Colonel Gower, M.D. (New Zealand*: F.R.C.S.: (Edin.), F.R.A.C.S.V who: served in the Gi’eat War, attaining the rank of major, has had a notable medical and sporting career. Born in Invercargill, he graduated from Otago University .in 1910. .. -During 1913 and 1914 he was in private practice in Hamilton. Returning to Hamilton in 1020. after War service, he was appointed surgeon-superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, resigning in 1929. Since 1930 he has been in private practice in Hamilton. Proceeding overseas shortly after; the outbreak of war, he was second-in-command of the No. 133 Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C., in France, and during 1916, 1917, and 1918 he Was medical officer, with the rank of captain, in the No. i New Zealand General Hospital at Brockenhurst. Colonel Gower represented Otago:; University at hockey fo: four years, the Otago Association for three years, and played for ‘he South Island. He was captain of the Waikato hockey representatives in 1913, 1914, 1915, and again in 1920. He represented the Otago University at lawn tennis for four years. A Waikato representative bajdminton player, he hr been president of the Waikato Badminton Association for seven years. In 1938 he was president of the New Zealand Badmihr ton Federation, and is .t present a member of the New Zealand Council. Keenly interested in aviation, Colonel Gower is a member of the Waikato Aero Club, and gained his “A” flying licence in 1934. ;■(£
