WAR VESSELS’ NAMES
DESTROYERS AFTER TRIBES MINE-SWEEPERS AFTER TOWNS (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY. Oct. 10. The Minister for the Navy. Mr Cameron, has announced that the first two “Tribal” destroyers being built in Australia will be named after Australian aboriginal tribes. The 10 minesweepers being built in Australia for the British Admiralty will be named after Australian towns. . A The destroyers will be named Arunta and Warramunga and the mine-sweep-ers Bathurst. Lismore, Goulbum. Ballarat. Bendigo. Maryborough. Toowoomba, Kalgoorlie. Burnie. and Glenelg. The Admiralty has approved the naming of the vessels after Australian towns, and the names selected have been approved by the King. The ships, which are of new Australian design, are being built in four States for mine-sweeping overseas. The first two, H.M.S. Bathurst and H.M.S. Lismore. have been launched.
