THE MAORI PEOPLE

WORK OF THE CHURCH CAUSE FOR SERIOUS CONCERN (Pep United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. The position of the work of the church among the Maori people of the diocese gave cause for serious concern, said Bishop Simkin. addressing the Anglican Synod to-day. “A prevalence of drunkenness, a lack of control in moral conduct, and an indifference to worship are three evils which demand the serious attention of the synod,” the bishop continued. “The Church cannot stand aside merely looking on and doing nothing to stem the devastation of the sniritual lives of the Maori people. We must seek to find out where our weakness lies and apply the remedy.” In the fullest co-operation with the Bishop of Aotearoa he hoped to exercise towards the Maori people the ministry of his office and to bring more closelv together in worship and service of God the peoples of the two races.
