The September meeting of the Aire-dale-Rosebery branch was presided over by Mrs Poison' (president). A motion of sympathy, was passed with a member who had suffered bereavement. Miss Jean Kirkpatrick gave an interesting demonstration on crocheted tea cosies. Miss ivy Hastings received the birthday spray for the month. The winners of Miss Hastings’s memory competition were Mesdames Robb and Roberts. The competitions resulted:— Spring flowers: Mrs E. Roberts 1, Mesdames W, Kirkpatrick and G. Neil (equal) 2. Marmalade: Mrs Buick 1, Mesdames Poison and Roberts and Miss L. Willets (equal) 2. Peasant apron: Mrs E. Roberts 1. Mrs H. Buick and Miss L. Willetts (equal) 2.

* * » Mrs Durwood presided at the monthly meeting of the North Otago Executive. A motion of'sympathy m her serious illness was passed with Mrs Cleave (housekeeping secretary). Mrs Elliott (Dominion vice-president), who was presented with a spray of spring flowers by Miss McGregor on behalf of the members, spoke on what was done at the Wellington conference and on different phases of the work and war work policy. . She asked members to support “Kaianga; Moe. the division’s rest home, as it was proving its usefulness. The housekeeping scheme was handicapped ny the impossibility of getting women to act as housekeepers. Members were working on Red Cross and Patriotic Committees, and had dpne a considerable amount of work in knitting for troops and sewing garments for the Lady Galway Fund. Members were contributing towards a Plane for th. Air Force, and a considerable sum had been sent to headquarters. * * * The Enfield branch held a successful spring afternoon recently in the Enfield Hall, which was tastefully decoiated by members for the occasion. Mis Yuill (president) extended a welcome to visitors from the Oamaru and Auedale branches, and members of the Windsor Park Institute. A pianoforte duet by Misses Jessie McLeod and E. Paton piano solo by Mrs Gordon Donaldson, and songs by Mesdames Chase, Glass, and McWhirter comprised the afternoon’s programme. * * Mrs H. Wilson presided over the monthly meeting of the Henley branch. There was a good response to the appeal for clothing for the refugee children. In the sewing competition Mrs Wilson and Miss Mavis Horne were placed first equal. The hostesses were Mrs Horne and Miss Mavis Horne On Saturday last members invited friends to a ’‘Bring and Buy” sale m aid of the Soldiers’ Parcel Fund the goods realising £B. * * * The monthly meeting of the Maheno branch was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Grant presiding. The roll call was " Something interesting to read during Ihe month.” A further contribution of £2 2s urns made to the Bomber Fund and £2 2s to the local Refugee Fund. Mrs W. Marshall gave an entertaining talk on her travels abroad. The competitions resulted;— Jam tarts —Miss J. Todd 1. Miss V. Currie 2; bloom—Mrs J, Grant 1, Miss V. Currie 2; baby’s booties—Mrs G. Kclcher 1. Miss J. Robertson 2. The booties were sent to (he Oamaru Public Hospital. K. * A successful ” Spring Afternoon ” was staged by the members of the Enfield branch recently. Visitors from various branches of the W.D.F.U. and Women's Institutes were present, the president (Mrs Yuill) extending a welcome. A short musical programme, interspersed with competitions, was presented. A “Bring and Buy Sale” was held, and a satisfactory sum was raised for the “ special effort fund.” ¥ ¥ ¥ The monthly meeting of the Duntroon branch was held on Saturday last. Mrs H. Harvey presiding. The roll call was “ Most amusing experience.” A community sing and dance is to be held in aid of the Fighter Plane Fund. An interesting demonstration on “ Tatting ” was given by Mrs R. Hay. The hostesses were Mesdames Fridd Taylor and Miss H. Tallentire.
