RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB The third and final competition ot the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club’s President's Match was fired over ranges 300 and 600 yards at the Pelichet Bay range on Saturday. Though the light throughout the afternoon was dull the conditions generally were ideal for shooting. A rear fishtail wind occasionally caused concern amongst the marksmen. This however, did not stop good scores being registered Possibles were scored by Rifleman P. Fennessy at SOOvds and Rifleman D. Kilgour at 600yds. Rifleman D. Kilgour had the distinction of gaining highest score (66) off the rifle for the day, and in doing so counted out Rifleman H Butel with the same total. Rifleman D. Kilgour’s shooting. especially his possible at 600yds. was very creditable considering that he shot tinder fairly difficult conditions and also that he is the youngest member of the club, being at present a pupil of the Otago Boys’ High School. The match was won by Rifleman S. Smith with a total of 201, closely followed by Rifleman A. Baker with 200. No shooting will be carried out by the club during the next two weeks, owing to the fact that the rifle range will be occupied by the National Military Reserve. The opportunity will be taken to repair targets and equipment at the upper range. The assistance of all members is required in this work. The following were the results of Saturday’s shooting:— 300 600
