Ministerial The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Adam Hamilton) ( who arrived in Dunedin on Monday night from the south, left for Wellington by the through express yesterday. He was accompanied by his private secretary (Mr C. H. Williams). Mr Guy Tapley left for Christchurch by the mid-day express yesterday. Mr James Hogg was a passenger for Wellington by the mid-day express yesterday. Mr' Percy Shaw left on his return to Auckland by the through express yesterday.

Mr A A. Bollons, of Wanganui. has arrived in Dunedin to take up his duties as district engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr H. L. Paterson left for Wellington by the through express yesterday to attend a meeting of the Joint Council of the St. John-Red Cross War Committee

Mr L Hayman, who has been station master at Wingatui for the past five years has been promoted to inwards goods' clerk at Dunedin. Captain A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps and an ex-All Black footballer, has been promoted to the rank of major, the promotion to-date as from August 1.

High tributes to the services given to cricket in Otago. and in particular to the Carisbrook Cricket Club, by Mr T M Fraser, whose death occurred recently were paid at the annual meeting of the Carisbrook Club last-even-ing Mr Fraser was an extremely active club worker, earlier as a player and later as an administrator and at the time of his death he was a delegate to the Otago Cricket Association. Reference was made also to the aeatn on active service of two club members Messrs R. Kean and E. Howaith The following passengers travelled north by plane yesterday morning: Mrs S J Gascoigne for Christchurch, Mr W S Barr. Mr C. Paton, Miss A. Stevenson. Mrs L. Rawlinson and infant for Wellington. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were: Mr E. McCready. Mr A. J. Hyde, and Mr A F. Myall from Wellington, Mr J. S. Langford, Mr R. S- Glendining Mr J. D. Simpson, Miss E. Jeffery. and Miss P. McKenzie, from Christchurch.

At a meeting of the executive of the Real Estate Institute (Otago Branch) over which Mr R. S. McKenzie presided reference was made to Mr Douglas M. Spedding, who has resigned from the executive after 21 years' active participation in the affairs of the local institute. He was president of the branch in 1935-36 and during 1930-32 as president of the New Zealand institute he did conspicuous work in assisting members affected by earthquake in Hawke's Bay. A minute of appreciation of his services to both bodies was recorded and a copy forwarded to Mr Spedding.
