BRILLIANT METEOR

For about 30 seconds darkness became as bright as day when a meteor flashed across from the northern sky to disappear from sight over the sea off Wanganui on e recent evening. Starting in the northern sky at about 7.30 p.m.. it passed directly over Gonville and shed a bright bluish-white light. From the time it appeared to the time it disappeared a longer period than usual for the transition of a meteor passed, and an observer had time to point it out to a friend, who turned and saw it in the last stage of its trip across the visible heavens. From the rear a tril of sparks sprayed out, many of them as large as the usual shooting stars. Their degree of brilliancy could not be noted because of the brightness of the meteor.
