PLAYBOX CLUB

An original comedy in three acts entitled "Who Is This Woman?" was presented by Mr Russell-Wood's players on Tuesday evening, and was enjoyed by a most responsive audience. There was nothing seriously, wrong with any of the acting save for some bad movement and masking in the first act. The play itself is only a slight comedy, and it was to the credit of those interpreting it that they made so much of many rather incongruous situations and kept the audience '' m happy mood throughout. There were two really fine performances; those of Mrs Lance Griffiths and Mr Harry Westwood. Mrs Griffiths always excels in character.parts, and as the domineering wife who later became entirely docile she gave a natural and satisfying portrayal. Mr Westwood was equally good as the submissive' husband who' eventually changed his tactics and became master of the house. It was a characterisation full ■'•■•of humour, and was greatly enjoyed. Miss Natalie Owles gave a good account of herself in the ingenue part; she has a good voice, prepossessing appearance and talent worth developing. Of the others, Mr G. Herbert did-satisfactory work in an important role; Mr Burton Donovan proved himself the possessor of a voice of unusual timbre; Mr Gordon Churchman showed considerable promise in his handling of a difficult part; Miss Marcia. Morris did fair work in a role reminiscent of Mrs Malaprop; Miss Enid McStay was impressive, though wanting in vitality as the doctor; and Mrs T. Nelson gave a varied performance as the maid-of-* all-work. The hostesses at supper time were Misses Hessian. M. Harris, and C. Clark.
