AFTER THE WAR
WELFARE OF RETURNED MEN PATRIOTIC FUNDS EARMARKED SPECIAL ACCOUNT CREATED Following on a decision yesterday afternoon of the executive of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council an account will immediately be opened to receive money from the provincial’ funds which will be reserved exclusively for the rehabilitation of soldiers after the war and the welfare of their dependents. The account will be established with the deposit forthwith of a sum of £15,000. Sir Percy Sargood moved—“ That the sum of £15,000 be set aside at once as an instalment for the Otago Provicial Patriotic Fund Returned Soldiers and Dependents’ Account, or any other designation of that fund.” , The mover said he put the ’-reposal forward with the idea of enabling the council to keep faith with its undertaken, frequently given to the public, that the : funds collected would be used, among other things, for the rehabilitation of returned soldiers and the welfare of dependents. The motion provided for the immediate earmarking of money for that purpose, in addition to meeting such current commitments as comforts' for camps ana payments to the National Fund. The motion was carried. Subsequently, on the motion of Mr E. C. Hazlett, it was decided to change the designation of the account to the Otago Provincial Services and Dependents Fund Account. The mover explained that the object of the change was to ensure that the fund embrased the interests of everyone actively participating in* the prosecution of- the war.
