WAIHEMO COUNTY
COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING The chairman- (Cr H. S. Sheat) presided at the monthly meeting of the Waihemo County Council on Monday. The secretary of the Otago Hospital Board advised that the county’s levy for the current year would be £1444 5s 7d.— It was decided to express appreciation at the substantial reduction in comparison with last year. Advice was received from the district employment officer that further particulars as to staff were required by the head office in regard to the council’s application for scheme 13 workers.— Necessary particulars would be supplied. The Commissioner of Transport advised that the chief traffic inspector for the district would await on the council jto discuss traffic control In the county according to the agreement concluded between the New Zealand Counties’ Association and the Transport Department.—Held over until next meeting pending interview with inspector. The foreman’s report was adopted,. •The following licences were recommended:— Slaughter house: Messrs Fraser and McLeod. J. Turina and Messrs Benston and Martin Publicans’: Mr G. Stanley, Macrae's, and A. E. Ockwell, Macrae s. It was decided to write Mr C. Gilhand, the mill owner at Palmerston, and Mr H. Wright (Goodwood) regarding the damage to the county road by Mr Giluand’s plant. The council agreed to inspect the slip on the Mareburn road leading to Berkeley’s property. Accounts amounting to £635 3s 5d were passed for payment.
