EX-DUNEDIN BOY’S DEATH MEMBER OF FIGHTING FAMILY Leading Aircraftsman P. M. McFarlane, who was one of the victims of the aeroplane crash at, Akaroa on Saturday, was a former resident of Dunedin and was the second of four sons each of whom was on-active service. An elder brother. Lawrence, has been in. the Royal Air Force in England since . 1936. Another brother Donald.
is a sergeant with the first echelon in Egypt and the youngest brother, John, has volunteered for service in the New Zealand Air Force and is waiting to be called up for training. McFarlane, who was generally known as “Peter,” was born in Napier and was an old boy of the Otago Boys High' School: He'was 24 years of age and was remembered locally for his bright and genial nature. Some seven' years ago he Went' to Nelson where he joined the staff of the Anchor Steamship and Foundry Company. Ltd. He was a member of the Nelson Aero Club and later joined the Civil Reserve In March he commenced training with “the New Zealand Air Force. Just on three years ago he married Miss Amy Rogers, eldest daughter of Mrs Rogers of “ Moana; Stoke. Nelson.
