TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES
SICK AND ACCIDENT SOCIETY , TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY A very large attendance of tramwaymen and ex-tramwaymen assembled last Tuesday evening to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Corporation Tramway Employees Sick and Accident Society and to bid farewell to Traffic Mspector J. E. Marshall, who has retired after 32 years’ service. Councillors D. C. Cameron, J. McCrae and H. L. Gibson, and the transport manager (Mr W. H, MacKenzie) were also present. Mr P. J. Munn, president of the society, paid a tribute to those members who had worked so hard to form the society. The toast of “The Tramway Sick and Accident Society ” was proposed b.v Mr W. R Dever and responded to by Mr J. E Marshall, who convened the meeting in 1914 to discuss the formation of the society. He claimed that the organisation had justifiecMts existence by the fact that the last financial statement showed that the sum of £8620 16s 7d had been paid out on sick and funeral claims .since its inception. Making a presentation of a well-filled wallet, the transport manager wished Mr Marshall a pleasant time in his retirement. Mr Marshall expressed thanks for the assistance he had received during his term as traffic inspector. The councillors present congratulated the society on the work it was doing and extended best wishes to Mr Marshall The toast list included “Absent Members.” “Tramway Organisations,” “ Kindred Societies.” “Past Officials” and “Performers and Stewards.” The tramway orchestra, Messrs G. McPate, Les Wilson, J. and W. Puddy J Paterson, J. Swan, G. McKinlay, W. Finnic, and J. Broom, contributed to an excellent programme.
