AWAY FROM AXIS

RUSSIAN TENDENCY BRITISH ENVOY'S VISIT LONDON, May 29. It is believed in London that the Soviet is rapidly veering away from the German orbit. The Soviet is said to be no longer co-operating with Germany in the matter of supplies. Only small quantities were now reaching Germany, largely because the Soviet does not want a sweeping German victory, which it recognises would be a prelude to Hitler attacking Russia. It is considered in London, however, that the orientation of Russia’s policy may depend largely on the outcome of Sir Stafford Cripps’s visit to Moscow. The Soviet is stated to be still irritated by the prominence given to some anti-Russian elements in Britain and the holding of the Russian freighters Selenga and Vladimir Moyakovsky by the British. .. „ The Moscow radio stated that the Allies’ strength in the Mediterranean is three times that of Italy.
