FENCING WIRE

SHORTAGE IN NEW ZEALAND EFFORTS TO EASE SITUATION (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, May 20. " It. is evident that the shortage of fencing wire will continue, but all efforts will be made to do what is possible to ease the situation," stated the Director of Primary Production (Mr R. B. Tennent), in a letter received bv the Auckland District Council of Primary Production. Mr Tennent said the shortage had been aggravated by the coal strike in Australia, which was the source of most of the Dominion's., supplies. Recently the Government had taken steps to land a shipment from Canada and a small quantity of barb wire was procured from Japan. The total from the two countries amounted to only 1300 tons and some of it would be required for industrial purposes, such as nail making.
