OCTAGON "AIR RAID" SHELTER

Brisk business was done yesterday in the " air raid shelter " which has been set up in the Octagon as a shoppingplace for all those who are willing to patronise it in the cause of the sick, the wounded and the prisoners of war. The shop, which is under the joint control of the Red Cross and the St. John Ambulance, stocks all kinds of provisions, cooked and uncooked. There is also an antique corner, a " white elephant" stall, a book stall, and a "permanent wave" department. This week members of the Otago Women's Club are in charge of the shelter and they will be grateful for donations, particularly in the way of foodstuffs. Next week is the turn of the Social Service Group of the combined old girls' associations, and other women's organisations will follow suit.
