Mr H. Brash was a passenger by the mid-day express on Saturday on his way to Wellington. Mr D. Forsyth, of Port Chalmers., was elected president of the New Zealand Educational Institute, at the annual meeting at Wellington on Friday. Mr Forsyth is the first Otago teacher to be president since 1932. Mr A. Hanna, of the Forbury School, was elected a member of the Executive Committee. Mr John Nicholson Macintosh, formerly of Timaru, has been appointed British Vice-Consul at Santa Fe, Argentina, by the British Consul at Rossario. Mr Macintosh is a son of Mr C. M. Macintosh, an ex-Mayor of Timaru. He was educated at the Waimataitai School, but when he was about 12 he went to South America, returning to live at Timaru for a while, and leaving the second time at the age 23 Mr G. G. Stewart, Publicity Manager of the New Zealand Railways, will retire on superannuation to-morrow, after completing 42 years’ service. Mr Stewart joined the Railways in 1898 as a cadet at Westport, and served in various districts, including Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Nelson. In 1915 he was transferred to the Auckland district, and served at Mercer, and was stationmaster at Thames. He then went to Auckland, where, until 1924. he was in the District Traffic Manager’s office. He was then appointed a commercial agent, with headquarters at Wellington, and after service in that branch was in the Transport Department From this position he was appointed editor of the Railways Magazine in 1925, and was made officer in charge of the publicity branch when this was established in 1926. He became Publicity Manager in 1927. For the greater portion of 1930 he was also Acting Commercial Manager
