CIVIC BENEFACTOR

MR A. S. PATERSON TRIBUTE BY CITY COUNCIL A tribute to the memory of Mr A. S. Paterson was paid at the meeting of the City Council last night, when a resolution of sympathy with the relatives and recognition of his services to the community was carried. The Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) said Mr Paterson had played a prominent part in'the early development of the city, and had built up a Dominionwide business which was recognised as one of the best of its kind in New Zealand. He was known to many as a man of great business acumen, and perhaps to many more as the donor of the magnificent Wembley organ in the Town Hall. The Mayor moved the following motion. which was carried: — “That this council expresses to the relatives of Mr A. S. Paterson its deep sympathy with them in their irreparable loss, and places on record its appreciation of the valuable services he rendered to tjie communal life of the city and bis generous gifts to the citizens.”
