A peculiar, dried-up. bladder-like object, which she had found on Wailarere Beach was brought into the Manawatu Evening Standard office a few weeks ago by Mrs J. M. Mudford, of Taikorea road, Rongotea. She was advised to send it to a museum for identification, and did so. She has now received a reply from Mr W. J. Phillipps, of the Dominion Museum, Wellington. stating that the specimen forwarded was the swim bladder of a porcupine fish (allomycterus jaculiferous). This porcupine fish is covered with strong spikes on the outside of the body, and it is said the skeletons of it are not uncommon on New Zealand beaches.
