BERLIN REPORTS OF FLIGHTS BRITISH FIGHTER SHOT DOWN WEST FRONT REMAINS QUIET (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Mar. 23. (Received Mar. 24, at 10.15 p.m.) A Berlin communique states that despite intense fighter and antiaircraft defence the German Air Force has carried out numerous- reconnaissance flights over France. Some enemy reconnaissance planes entered German territory and one British plane was shot down. An Amsterdam message states that a British fighter plane was shot down in flames during combat with two Germans at a great height over the German Dutch frontier. It crashed in the Oudewater River, the two occupants being killed. The bodies have not yet been recovered: To-night’s French communique reports a quiet day on the whole of the Western Front, with local artillery actions. ' aV, The past 24 hours were very quiet, apart from the sector immediately east of the River Sarre. Here German patrols . were more active than usual. Several advanced close to the Fren ch posts and were exceptionally aggressive, but the French repulsed them without much difficulty.
