WOMEN’S CRICKET

OTAGO v. CANTERBURY HOME TEAM IN LEAD Conditions were almost ideal for the first day’s play of the women’s cricket match. Otago v. Canterbury, which was played on the Oval on Saturday. In its first innings, the Otago team scored 89 runs, the top score (20) being made by Miss A. Marsh. Misses B. Dunn and E. Wise, who took seven of the eight wickets, bowled well, Canterbury’s total was kept down to 57 runs. Mrs B, Moore and Misses P. Eckhoff and P. Keen were the most successful bowlers. In the hour and a-half which followed Canterbury’s dismissal Otago added another 52 runs for five wickets. Mrs I. South, with 22 runs, headed the list of scorers. Taking three wickets for seven runs, Miss N. Austin bowled well. Play will be restarted at 10.30 this morning. Scores:—
