The New Zealand alpine country has become a national sports ground, where, all through the year, hardy climbers accept the challenge of the distant peaks. J. D. PASCOE, one of the bestknown of the Dominion's mountaineers, is well qualified for his discussion of THE MOUNTAINS (Department of Internal Affairs, 1s) in the latest of the Centennial "Making New Zealand" series. The history of climbing and skiing is entertainingly conveyed in picture and story, and the writer pays tribute to such pioneers as Green, Mannering, Dixon, and others, to whom the sport owes much.
