GERMAN IDEOLOGY
BRUTAL IDEA OF CONQUEST BRITAIN AND FRANCE UNAFRAID (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Mar. 20. “There are only two countries in Europe not afraid of Germany. They are Britain and France.” said Mr D. R. Grenfell, the representative of the United Kingdom branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association at the New Zealand Centennial celebrations at a luncheon in his honour to-day by the New Zealand branch of the association. The German philosophy, he added, was arms first and talk afterward. The new ideology was the bi'utal idea of conquest. With their belief in democracy the British people were prepared to risk everything to save their independence and the conditions of life which they enjoyed because of hundreds of years of joint effort. The Speaker of the Legislative Council. Mr M. Fagan, presided in his capacity as joint president of the New Zealand branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association. The luncheon was attended bv members of the House of Representatives and of the Legislative Council. The health of Mr Grenfell was proposed bv the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser.
