MIDDLEMARCH Rainfall , The high winds that prevailed during the end of January continued throughout February., and the month has bedn most difficult and unpleasant for harvesting operations. LAWRENCE Tuapeka Collie Club The annual meeting of the Tuapeka Collie Club was held last Saturday; Mr A. J. Crawford presiding. The balance sheet revealed a credit balance of £27 9s. Borough Council The monthly meeting of the Lawrence Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr R. F. Batchelor) presiding. The New Zealand Defence League wrote asking the council to assist in sponsoring an appeal to the Government to introduce conscription.—Received. The Department of Internal Affairs advised that an Order-in-Council had been gazetted extending the present dog registrations for another month owing to further delay in the arrival of the shipment of arecoline hydrobromide. The new reistrations would how date from April 1. —Received; The Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army wrote soliciting support for their “fighting services welfare ” appeal. Ir was resolved to open a subscription list at the borough office. The Minister of Internal Affairs advised that he had received no nominations for appointment to the Lawrence, Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee.—lt was decided to recommend to the Minister that the following committee be . gazetted:—Messrs R. F. Batchelor (chairman), C. M. Jackman, E. M. Stevens, G. R. Talboys, F. J. Gray, and A. L. Hart. J, / The Lawrence Presbyterian Church wrote inviting the Mayor and councillors to attend a special centennial service on Sunday, March 10.—The invitation was accepted. Cr Martin reported that there was a credit balance of £2BO 3s 2d in the district fund account, and £236 4s 5d in the waterworks loan account. Accounts totalling £252 0s lOd were passed for payment. Cr Pitt reported that application had been made to the Social Security Department for labour under scheme No. 13, and the Mines Department had been requested to support the application. Cr Colgan reported having inspected the area below the reservoir, and recommended that £123 be spent in renewing pipes in this area. He stated the Phoenix dam was at the 3ft level. — Recommendation approved. Lawn Tennis A lawn tennis match, Lawrence v.
