THE RUSSIANS CHECKED OFFENSIVE BREAKS DOWN FINNISH AIRCRAFT RAIDS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) HELSINKI, Jan. 24. (Received Jan. 24, at 11 p.m.) A Finnish communique says the Russian offensive has everywhere broken down. "Six planes were shot down and our coastal batteries successfully bombarded land objectives. The Russian base at Baldiski was satisfactorily raided. Thirty Finnish planes attacked Kronstadt, and returned after damaging warships which were frozen in. The battleships Marat and October Revolution are being repaired at Kronstadt after being damaged by batteries. The Russians bombed 10 towns, and a bomb scored a direct hit on an air shelter at Nurmes, killing 19. Aeroplanes machine-gunned people in the street."
